De Buurtcamping

Transforming Oosterpark into a campsite for three days

Context

Villages have two things that cities lack: local residents that often know (and greet) each other and closeness to nature.

Concept

A perfect mini society. A three day neighbourhood campsite where all local campers (⅓ who are volunteers and ⅓ who are from low income households) join and create new, lasting connections. This neighbourhood campsite popped up in over 50 parks in the Netherlands already and is growing each year.

Contribution

We The City setup Tante Leen, a place where you can borrow camp supplies and smile necessities, in the first year. Then we became the campsite boss of the campsite at Oosterpark in the second year and finally we were part of the organizing team as ‘the creative’ in the third year.
